WHAT IS DELE?
Diplomas de Español DELE
The "Diplomas de Español DELE", issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry for Education and Science, are official qualifications accrediting levels of competence and command of the Spanish language.
They are the only officially accredited qualifications issued by the Ministry for Education of the Kingdom of Spain that are administered internationally and are recognized worldwide by private companies, chambers of commerce and public & private educational systems.
The Instituto Cervantes has established collaborative agreements with the relevant departments of the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Education, as well as with other academic institutions of international prestige in the teaching of Spanish, especially regarding the production of examinations and evaluation.

The "Diplomas de Español DELE" official qualification accrediting levels of competence and command of the Spanish language are as follows:
This qualification attests to sufficient linguistic ability for a very basic range of the most simple and commonly used expressions in the Spanish-speaking world and permits the speaker to satisfy immediate needs of a concrete type.

This qualification attests to sufficient linguistic ability for understanding a basic range of commonly simple and immediate relevance expressions used in the Spanish-speaking world (basic personal & family information, shopping, local geography, and employment, for example).

This qualification attests to sufficient linguistic ability for understanding and responding appropriately in most normal day-to-day situations and for expressing desires and needs in a basic way.

Registration procedure
Registration for the tests must be effected at a DELE examination centre within the period established for each examination session. CPI Heredia is an Examination Centre; as such, our Admissions Department can assist you in completing the registration process.

Payment of the registration fee:
The Rights of Registration can be paid to CPI Heredia through a wire transfer or via internet. Once the Admissions Department at CPI receives the registration form you will receive instructions in a separate e-mail on the exact procedure for making the registration fee payment.
Original and photocopy of a photo ID that includes the following information:
Identity, nationality, place and date of birth: the information declared by candidates on the registration form must correspond with that on the ID.
Signed declaration, when appropriate, of fulfilment of at least two of the conditions described in section 2 under General Conditions.
Instituto Cervantes may administer the examinations for Diplomas in Spanish DELE under special conditions to those candidates who, due to being in conditions of confinement or having some kind of disability, are unable to sit these exams under the conditions set forth in the guidelines.
The candidates must arrive to the exam centre with:
- Passport or identification submitted in the registration.
- The official notice that the examination centre had sent to the candidate.
Once the registration fee is paid, if the candidate cancels the registration during the registration period or in the following 10 calendar days (5 days for the examination in August), s/he is entitled to a full refund. Should s/he cancel in the 10 days following termination of the established cancellation period (5 days for the examination in August), s/he will be refunded only 50% of the paid fee.
The paid registration fee includes the issue and shipping of the diploma. The fees fixed in each country and examination centres as "rights of registration" must be consulted in the appropriate examination centre or the suitable Instituto Cervantes abroad.Registration date for the DELE exam

Preparation Program for the DELE exam at CPI
CPI offers a preparation course for the DELE exam which is available at each of the 3 CPI campuses: Heredia, Monteverde, and Flamingo.
Because preparation is key to success, CPI has created a program model that is easily customized to your personal needs and abilities, permitting the professor to systematically clear up your individual doubts about DELE exam topics. Our DELE preparation course starts with a placement test on the first day of classes; based on the results, the evaluator recommends the appropriate DELE exam level for which the student should prepare. The program includes oral and written exercises along with extensive practice taking past DELE exams.
Success in passing the DELE exam goes beyond speaking Spanish, it is essential to master certain techniques. Our CPI professors have taken all the training courses offered by the Instituto Cervantes to be prepared to teach you the different topics covered in the DELE exam; for example: writing an essay, writing a letter, specific vocabulary, discussion of cultural and political topics, and current events, just to name a few.
Preparation Schedules
Intensive Course
Includes:
- One-on-one classes total 4 hours per day, 5 days per week beginning at 8:00 a.m. and finishing at 12:00 p.m., with a 20 minute break at 10 a.m. This intensive course is recommended for candidates that do not live in Costa Rica, but they want to take the exam in Costa Rica.
CPI recommends to take this course from 2- 4 weeks. Students who wish to prepare for the exam in less than four weeks may qualify depending o their Spanish level and background. We can apply you an online test to help you to decide the weeks you need for your preparation.
PRICE OF THE INTENSIVE COURSE: Preparation for the DELE exam:
- 20 hours preparation: $520 per week.
Regular Course
Includes:
- One-on-one classes from 2 or 4 hours per week. This course is recommended for foreigners that already live in Costa Rica. You choose your schedule according to your personal itinerary; classes available from Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 8:30pm, Saturdays during the mornings.
- Prices are per hour from $26 dollars. Discounts apply for residents living in Costa Rica.
- DELE textbooks have an additional cost.
